About The Event
Every JYS teacher needs to run their classroom in English.
The problem is not that you do not know this rule.
The problem is that you do not have the phrases ready when you need them.
In this meeting, we build a personal English Phrase Card with 40 ready-made phrases for instructions, praise, corrections, discipline, and transitions.
You will practice using these phrases in a live roleplay where the facilitator acts as a misbehaving student and you must respond in English only.
You leave with a card you can use in your next class.
NOTE: We are using only official British Council (www.teachingenglish.org.uk) sources for JYS teacher professional development:
Primary source: "Ways to encourage more use of English in class" by Clare Lavery, British Council TeachingEnglish (updated 2025).
Secondary source: "Kids and speaking," British Council TeachingEnglish (for the "English Monitor" concept and pair speaking setup procedures for young learners).
The Master Phrase List for JYS classroom was compiled from standard EFL classroom language resources. The 40 phrases represent the most common classroom management phrases at A2-B1 level, adapted for the JYS context (including JYS-specific discipline procedures like the reception line-writing protocol).
